Our Microgreens

A Truly Local Urban Farm

Our urban farm is located in the city of St. Thomas, Ontario. We closely manage every crop of microgreens ourselves. Lil' Greens Microgreens are grown in a sustainable system - using organic seed, peat moss and vermiculite -- which are both completely recyclable and compostable after their nutrients have been used. We never use any fertilizers or pesticides on our lil' green babies, either!

And, unlike many other local vegetables, our microgreens can be grown year round. So, you're guaranteed fresh, delicious, healthy baby greens whenever you want!

Storing Microgreens

Microgreens can last up to 2 weeks if you store them properly. The key is maintaining moisture to keep them fresh and crunchy.

An easy way to do this when storing is to put them between damp pieces of paper towels and then seal them in a plastic bag or container, and put in your fridge.

KEEP THEM COOL

Microgreens like to be kept cool, so, it's best to leave them cozy in the fridge just until you need them so that they don't dry out or wilt.

STAY OUT OF SUNLIGHT

Exposing some varieties of microgreens to sunlight after they've been harvested can alter their taste and appearance.

WASH WITH CARE

Microgreens can bruise easily, so they need to be handled with care. Just lightly rinse them in cold water and then gently run them through a salad spinner to dry them off, if you've got one. Ours are grown without fertilizers or pesticides, but it's best to wash them just in case. Also, only wash your microgreens right before you're going to use them, not before you store them in the refrigerator. Otherwise, they may have excess moisture and deteriorate more quickly.
